Updates

February 7, 2007

My mom is still feeling cruddy, but I thought she sounded marginally better today.  So we’ll keep praying and see.  Please pray that her body adjusts and responds to this medicine.  Pray for the Holy Spirit to be envelop her in His love and peace.  And please pray for my dad too — that he would have hope in the Lord and lots of peace and comfort.

I’m doing well on smoking today (notsomuch yesterday — ok, I got a pack, I know, I know — bad bad idea).  If by doing well, you understand I want a cigarette every 32 seconds, I mean.  But I’m not smoking.  I’m a little edgy with my children,  but heck, I’m edgy half the time anyway.  Last night, Dan rejected a band-aid (it had *Sally* from Cars, I mean come on Mom, that’s clearly a GIRL band-aid).  I got him a new one and put the Sally band-aid on my forehead.  Do you know that not one of my children noticed for ten minutes — and even then, I had to point it out?  What does this say about how much they notice me other than what I do for them???  Probably about as much as I notice God a lot of the time.

Third day home with all three kids.  Really, they’re doing pretty well.  But I anxiously await school tomorrow.

Thanks for all the prayers.  I feel like if I can get to the end of the week without a cigarette, it will be a big hurdle accomplished.

good job on not smoking today! have you thought about trying one of the programs available, like the patch or something? i really don’t have a clue about what works, so feel free to ignore. 🙂

I am actually using the Patch, at least for now. Last time I quit I used it for a couple of days and didn’t need it anymore. But note to self: buy the more expensive Nicoderm patches rather than the cheaper Meijer ones because the cheap ones don’t have enough sticky stuff. Falling off is NOT GOOD.

Oddly, I STILL want a cigarette — but I’m all for the Patch helping with the physical aspect of addiction, while I cope with the emotional/mental end.

    Thanks for the encouragement!

    We’re praying for you.

You can actually smoke the patches for added effectiveness. Or so I hear.

Don’t think it hasn’t crossed my mind, my friend. How about smoking a drinking straw? Or a stick pretzel? Or maybe a comb? The options are endless….

a banana peel… i’ve heard of people trying to smoke those before.

meanwhile, use rubberglue to stick the falling off patch back on?

It didn’t work. I tried it back in the day. I blame it all on an infernal musical Scotman named Donovan who once sang “They call it mellow yellow/Electrical banana …,” etc. So I was envisioning something, you know, psychedelic and fruity.

It ended up being kind of gross, without any discernible side effects other than an inexplicable tendency for monkeys to follow me around. I don’t recommend it.
